MYGOLF JUNIOR LEAGUE: CHAMPIONS

The MyGolf Junior League has had a facelift for 2023 with 2-ball Ambrose match play being replaced by a Tri-Series 4-ball Ambrose stroke play tournament.

The Royal Adelaide Knights compete in the North / West League against the North Adelaide Koalas and the Tea Tree Gully Chippers.

FINAL ROUND: Sunday 19th November

The final round of the Tri Series MGJL was hosted by Royal Adelaide last Sunday on a perfect afternoon for golf. The main emphasis of the series is for participation, team work and the young golfers to experience golf on a range of courses.

Royal Adelaide went into the game tied with the team from North Adelaide. Our team of 4 has remained the same for all 3 games Hugo Junin, Kelsea Lu, Grace and Edwin Cha.

As each team plays together it wasn’t until we had all finished we realised all 3 teams had scored 34 points for the shortened 9-hole Ambrose game, it was exciting for all. The young golfers thoroughly enjoyed playing at RA, each group has really learned to play as a team. Royal Adelaide tied with North Adelaide but the competition guidelines require a result so on a count back Royal Adelaide won by just 1 stroke.

Everyone agreed the new format has been a great success.

Thanks to the parents who have supported and caddied for the young golfers each week.

RESULTS

ROUND 2: Sunday 12th November

The second round of this competition was held at Tea Tree Gully Golf Club on Sunday 12th November. Hugo Junin, Kelsea Lu, Grace and Edwin Cha represented The Royal Adelaide Knights in the new format of shortened course 9-hole 4-ball Ambrose. They had another great round with a score of 32 shots and sit tied with North Adelaide on a cumulative score of 64.

Next week will be the last round and is being held at Royal Adelaide, the winner will be the team with the lowest cumulative score over the three rounds.

It is proving to be a great format which really encourages the players to work as a team. It was impressive to see the four players working together with decision making in choosing which ball to play and on the green working together on lining up putts as well as just walking and talking together between shots.

As always thanks to the parents who caddied.

ROUND 1: Sunday 5th November

While Royal Adelaide’s best golfers were vying for the right to be named Club Champion for 2023 our youngest and newest golfers played in the first round of the revamped MyGolf Junior League last Sunday afternoon. Hugo Junin, Kelsea Lu, Grace and Edwin Cha played a 9-hole Ambrose on a shortened North Adelaide course.

Other clubs in our division are Tea Tree Gully and North Adelaide. 32 points for 9 holes was a terrific score with all players contributing.

The 4-ball Ambrose format in club groups worked well, encouraging players to work together and get to know each other.

Well done everyone including mums and dads who caddied.
