EVENT HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The T.G. Wilson Cup was donated to the Club by Sir Thomas George Wilson and was first played in 1928. Sir Wilson, known generally as George or T.G. (and sometimes the less-flattering, “Tin Guts”), was a doctor specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology, particularly ante-natal and maternal care at the Queen’s Home (Queen Victoria Maternity Hospital) and the (Royal) Adelaide Hospital. He also lectured at Adelaide University and played a pivotal role in the creation of a full-time Director of Obstetrics role at the university. Through his dedication to obstetric and gynaecological care, an ante-natal clinic he founded and nursing accommodations were named after him in 1932 and 1949 respectively.

Sir Thomas George Wilson served Royal Adelaide as Club Captain from 1931-1933 and again from 1941-1950 as Club President. The T.G. Wilson Cup has remained as a Mixed Canadian Foursome event throughout its 95-year history.
