EVENT HISTORY:

Presented by Miss Adelaide Beck

Miss Adelaide Beck, her sisters Misses E and M Beck, and Mr RC Beck, lived near the Adelaide Golf Club, Seaton, and were seen to ride bicycles to golf.

The Becks were early members of the Adelaide Golf Club, and in 1925 Miss Adelaide Beck, together with Mrs KI Cudmore, (the late mother of Miss Mary McL. Cudmore) were the Club’s representatives at a meeting to form the South Australian Golf Union.

Mr RC Beck was the Voluntary Auditor of the S.A.L.G.U. for many years, while Miss Adelaide Beck was the Honorary Associates Secretary also for many years, retiring after the war in 1945.

Miss E Beck was a Vice President of the S.A.L.G.U.  1937 – 1938

Miss M Beck was a Vice President of the S.A.L.G.U.  1939

They were respectively known as “Red” and “Black” because of the colour of their hair.   Adelaide was “Black” and Nellie was “Red”.   They milked cows before riding their bikes to play golf.

The BECK CUPS were first awarded in 1946 – Silver and Bronze Divisions – for best stroke net aggregate of two consecutive Fridays.
