The Women’s Christmas Golf, Lunch and Annual Trophy Presentation took place on Tuesday 22nd November with 136 players taking to the course in Christmas regalia to celebrate the upcoming Christmas season.

With teams playing in an Elimination Ambrose with string benefits from the charity Treasure Boxes there was a lot to process but as per usual the Royal Adelaide girls took it in their stride.

Congratulations to the Thomson Course winning team of Honi Hooper, Mandy Ayres, Jane Cooper and Pip Darby who prevailed with 29.215 nett by the very narrow margin of .125 or if you prefer fractional 1/8th of a shot from Anne Ellis, Jill McEwin, Claire Sweeney and Deb Susman.

On the MacKenzie course it was the now familiar 1/8th of a shot difference as Annabel Blanch, Deb Weir, Anne Tolley and Penny Bone winning with 26.75 nett from Sophie Gosse, Liz Fahlbusch-Moore, Lizzie Hughes and Lou Jacka.

We were also delighted to have Morwen from Treasure Boxes speak at the lunch and of course the annual Christmas singalong was enjoyed with great gusto.

The Trophy Presentations took place with trophies that had been won through the year presented to the winners and all the end of season awards including the The Alison Douglas Memorial Trophy for good fellowship in the Club which was awarded to Di Faull. Congratulations Di!

GOLF FORMAT – 9 Hole Elimination Ambrose

  • 9.00am Shotgun Start. *Please note there will be a players welcome at 8.45am. There will be one scorecard per group to be collected from the Golf Shop.
  • Play from Red tees.
  • All players tee off. Group chooses the best ball and places their ball within one club length of chosen ball.
  • The elimination part – The golfer whose shot is taken is eliminated from participating in the next shot. A player is only eliminated for the one shot following their selected shot – i.e. you cannot play your own shot.
  • Play continues on in this format until ball is on green where everyone can putt.
  • At least one drive from each player must be used for the round.
  • The string part – Lengths of string may be purchased on day (with money going to the charity Treasure Boxes). The group may use the length of string to move a chosen ball anywhere on the course in any direction including nearer the hole.  The length of string may be cut, the ball is moved and the remainder of the string can be used again in the round.
Ie the group chips onto the green for three and are a tantalizing 6 inches from the hole, they may cut six inches off their piece of string and move the ball into the hole for a nicely made 3 saving themselves a shot on their score.
